Pondicherry trip

Pondicherry Trip (15 Aug - 17 Aug 2008)

Long weekend is coming , this thought really kept us excited for many weeks before we actually started for Pondicheery. There was sceptism around whenever we shared our plans with anybody. It would be too hot , very long distance and blah blah but we really didn't care much.

Google map gave an fare idea about the route and places to see along it. We decided to follow Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Tiruvannamalai-Gingee-Pondicherry route totalling about 300 kms.

A day before departure, I got the car serviced and a got a new tyre too. 15 Aug morning we started from AECS Layout, Bangalore at 7:30 am, weather was cool with earth still smelling of the rain it got drenched on the night before.

It was a surprise to see the speed at which the expressway was coming up from the silk board junction till electronic city. All pillars are on place and work was going on a very fast pace. We entered NH7 and from there it was a smooth drive till Krishnagiri. Highway is really good and you can easily touch speed of 100/110 kms/hr but we had taken a decision not to drive very instead and were just sticking to 80 kms/hr. We yearning for a good cup of coffee and saw the board of A1 plaza but alas it was closed so went further down the road and grabbed a quick Dosa/Tea from a roadside joint. Later we found A2B restaurants after Hosur but we did not stop.

From Krishnagiri starts the NH-66 towards Pondicheery. Its a two lane highway but traffic is fast but one has to be very careful while overtaking and also there are numerous small villages in between where people/slow vehicles walk on roads so one need to be careful too. There are no good eating joints in between and we had to depend on the snacks which we brought from home. It was a pleasent drive with lot of scenic beauties along the route but we didn't click any photos as we wanted to reach Pondicherry by afternoon.

It took around 6 hours to reach Pondicherry and after that another 30 minutes to find the hotel.

Pondicherry is a small city which can be covered by walk but we decided to roam around by car as pavments are not there at many places. we visited Pondicherry Promnede, Golden Beach, Auroville and other interesting places. Weather was rather cloudy but it didn't rain.

Food is just OK eveywhere, nuthing to write about.

We started quite early back to Bangalore and the way back we visited Gingee fort and a temple. Road as usual was good and it took us 6.5 hours to reach back.
